UFC Update: Francis Ngannou Wins the Title Unification Match Against Ciryl Gane

On Saturday night Francis Ngannou faced off against Ciryl Gane in the main event of UFC 270 at the Honda Center. Francis is one of the most prolific punchers in the recent history of UFC. This was his first title defence where he displayed his strength as well as technical prowess. Both the frenchmen faced off against each other where Nagnnou had a record of 17-3 and on the other hand Gane held the record of 10-1. Francis was declared winner by a unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 49-46). As Gane was an interim champion and after winning the match Francis proudly unified the UFC undisputed heavyweight title. Both the fighters were evenly matched but Gane gained the upper hand in the first two rounds of the fight.

At the very beginning of the 3rd round of the fight Francis changed the tide of the fight towards his side as he slammed the opponent hard on the mat which shattered all the confidence gained by Gane in the previous rounds especially with the help of the spinning kicks that were bothering Ngannou till then. Before this fight no opponent of Gane was able to take Gane down and his opponent on this night repeatedly did that in 3rd, 4th and 5th round. `in the 5th round Francis performed a great leg sweep on Gane but Gane recovered a little and attempted to lock a heel hook and in that he failed miserably. Finally Ngannou finished the fight on top of his opponent and ended the bout strongly. Ngannou’s ground game has improved a lot since when we last saw him inside the cage and in the post match interview, he also expressed the same as Ngannou told the press, “My Ground game is evolving”.
