New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern Cancels Her Own Wedding Due to the Increasing Cases of COVID-19

Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern postponed her own wedding ceremony as COVID-19 restrictions were again imposed all over the country from Sunday midnight. She was set to marry her long-time partner, Clarke Gayford though they have never disclosed the wedding date to the public. But according to the sources they were scheduled to marry sometime in the upcoming weeks. This decision was taken late on Sunday afternoon as a total of 9 cases have emerged of the new Omicron variant in a family who have done intercity travel to attend a wedding in the recent past. Along with them, a flight attendant was also tested positive who had served on the same plane in which that family traveled. This Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus is far more deadly than the Delta variant as the transmission rate is higher. While announcing the COVID- 19 restriction she confirmed that her wedding was called off and told the people of the country that only 100 people who are fully vaccinated will be allowed in an event. Face masks have also become mandatory for every citizen of the country when they will be out in public.

In the official statement she also added, “I just joined many other New Zealanders who have had an experience like that as a result of the pandemic and to anyone who is caught up in that scenario, I am so sorry.” Since the inception of the global pandemic, the people of the country have reported 15104 cases of the COVID-19 virus and 52 citizens have died because of this. When asked about her personal opinion about the new restrictions Jacinda Ardern said, “I’m no different to thousands of other New Zealanders who have had much more devastating impacts felt by the pandemic, the most gutting of which is the inability to be with a loved one sometimes when they are gravely ill. That will far outstrip any sadness I experience.”
