WB Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Urges Central Government to Declare Netaji Birthday as a National Holiday

The 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was celebrated across India and prominent figures of Indian Politics such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind pay their tribute to this leader who dedicated his to the freedom struggle of India. Our Prime Minister tweeted “I bow to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his Jayanti. Every Indian is proud of his monumental contribution to our nation.” He also wished all his fellow countrymen a very happy Parakram Diwas as he announced last year that Netaji Birthday will be celebrated as ‘Parakram Diwas’.

Moreover, prior to Netaji Birthday, PM Modi also announced that a statue of Subhas Chandra Bose will be installed at India gate. He is set to unveil a hologram of the statue on the evening of 23rd January, 2022 till the construction of the real one is completed. Other political leaders such as Home Minister, Amit Shah and Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh also paid tribute to this freedom fighter by taking to Twitter. Amidst all this the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee appealed to the central government to declare 23rd January as a national holiday. She expressed her desire via a tweet which reads, “I appeal to appeal to the Central Government that Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s birthday is declared a National Holiday to allow the entire Nation to pay homage to the National Leader and celebrate #DeshNayakDibas in the most befitting manner,” She further added that the state government will build a national university, Jai Hind University in memory of Netaji. Moreover, PTI news agency has also reported that from this year Republic Day (26th January) in India will be celebrated throughout the week starting from Netaji’s Birthday and will end on 30th January, the day on which Father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated.
